Confederate Civil War Monument at Travis Park

Travis Park
Issue

In 2015, the Confederate Civil War Monument at Travis Park in Austin, Texas came under attack after the murder by Dylann Roof of nine black worshipers at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C. After the Charleston Massacre, a backlash against Confederate symbols arose across the nation. Bexar County leaders voted in July 2015 to remove two Confederate symbols on county property. City officials started looking into more Confederate symbols on public property; however, in the past two years no City action has occurred.
